Texas

The Colored Teachers State Association of Texas was established in 1885 on the campus of Prairie View State College. Educators in the state organized with a shared goal of promoting the general welfare of black educators and students. Notably, one-fourth of the presidents of the association served as heads of Prairie View State College. The association underwent several constitutions that began in 1906 and were revised until 1951. The association, which was later named the Teachers State Association of Texas, was subsumed into Texas State Teachers Association in 1967.
