The Columbian Educational Association was organized in 1921 at Dunbar High School in Washington, D.C.. Under the leadership of Dean Kelly Miller, the first president of the Columbian Educational Association, the organization served as the primary association for black educators in the nation’s capitol. The association had several aims including developing a professional spirit in black educators, fostering professional growth of black educators, promoting the welfare of its members, and furthering child welfare.
